308 Creating and Using Custom OpenLNS CT Shapes and Stencils
If you drag this master SmartShape to any subsystem in the same network, OpenLNS CT creates two
new functional blocks, and adds their outputs to the same Alarm connection for the Central Monitoring
Station. If you also include the Central Monitoring Station in the master SmartShape, OpenLNS CT
creates three new functional blocks and a new reference connection when you drag the master
SmartShape to a drawing.
You can also create a master SmartShape containing a connection not attached to any functional
blocks. The information in the connection description is saved and becomes part of the master
SmartShape. If you create a master SmartShape of a connector and a reference SmartShape (without
any associated functional blocks) you can use the master SmartShape to create reference connections
without opening the connection dialog.
You can use a master SmartShape that contains reference connections only on the network on which
you created it. This is an exception to the general rule that you can use master SmartShapes on more
than one network.
Tip: To speed up making connections, put OpenLNS CT OffNet before using a master SmartShape
with many connections in it. Updates to devices involved in the connections will be done when you go
OnNet.
Creating Additional Channels
If you drag a master SmartShape that includes a channel SmartShape and device SmartShapes to your
drawing, the master SmartShape may limit the channel types that can be used. In that case, only the
valid channel names and channel types will be listed.
Editing Master SmartShape User Defined Cells
You can edit user-defined cells in master OpenLNS CT SmartShapes to access advanced OpenLNS CT
features such as supporting multiple device types with a single SmartShape. This is an advanced
feature for advanced OpenLNS CT and Visio users. You can change the properties of a master
SmartShape by changing its user-defined cells. For example, you can extend the list of device types to
which a functional block can be applied, as described in Functional Block Master SmartShapes. User
defined cells are contained within a page called the ShapeSheet.
To view a SmartShape’s ShapeSheet, follow these steps:
1. Enable the Visio Developer tab. To do this, click File and then click Options. In the Visio
Options dialog, click the Customize Ribbon section. On the right-hand side, enable the
Developer check box, and then click OK.
2. Click the target OpenLNS CT SmartShape.
3. Click the Developer tab, point to Show ShapeSheet, and then click Shape (alternatively, you can
right-click the shape, and click Show ShapeSheet on the shortcut menu). The ShapeSheet for the
selected OpenLNS CT SmartShape opens.
